Conscious living

Conscious living is a way of life that is motivated by the desire to pay attention to and care for your inner world, and to use that awareness to make intentional decisions about how you show up in society and in your life.

We have the wonderful gift of consciousness, which allows us to be aware of our emotions, feelings, thoughts, internal sensations, and surroundings. We do not always use this ability, however. Rather, we frequently act reactively and unconsciously in response to internal experiences. This has a direct impact on our personal relationships, communities, and the environment.

Unconscious reactivity also influences our personal lives. What lies beneath the surface of our awareness frequently becomes the powerful driving force behind our decisions and life paths without our knowledge! The more “asleep” or unaware we are, the less we understand and control our behaviors and habits. This type of sleepwalking through life prevents us from accessing our deeper values and desires, as well as living a life true to who we are beyond the surface.

Living consciously allows us to become empowered characters in our own stories, capable of steering our sails through life’s changes.  It entails acknowledging this choice and taking action to make decisions that result in intentional outcomes. The philosophy behind living consciously is that we have the ability to become more aware of our internal experiences and engage with life more intentionally.

What are some ways to master Conscious living?

Mindfulness – It is the practice of maintaining a nonjudgmental, moment-to-moment awareness of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surroundings.

Emotional intelligence – It is one’s ability to recognise and manage one’s own emotions. Sometimes, all it takes is to accept things the way they are and not try to react strongly to everything.

Self-Reflective Journaling – It allows us to process our thoughts and reflect honestly on our observations about how we operate in the world. Journaling can also help us organise our thoughts and see things more clearly.

Value Audit – Know what your values are and doing things that aligns with your values.
